My Class Story

——Listening to the Sound of Flowers Blooming

Yingcheng Huamo Foreign Language School, Primary School Department Ye Lei

Every child is a seed, but each seed has a different flowering period. Some bloom brilliantly from the start, while others require a long wait! The work of a class teacher is the art of waiting for flowers to bloom. Students' growth journey requires us to nurture them with wisdom, watch over them with patience, and build with true feelings, thus providing the necessary conditions for the seeds to germinate.

(1) Taking Root with Confidence

Some say that confidence is the foundation of success. On the first day of school, parents and children came to register. Many parents told me: "My child's grades are not good, please take extra care." "My child has a poor foundation, please give more guidance." "My child..." I walked into the classroom and looked at the children sitting in the classroom. Their eyes showed either timidity or indifference... At this, I suddenly felt helpless: How should I teach these children? At the beginning of the class, I asked a few questions, and only a few children could answer them. The vast majority of children didn't know what to do, and I was extremely depressed. After class, I chatted with a few children and found that they had no interest in studying at all, and they were only there because of their parents' coercion. To help them find confidence, I told them: "Whether your grades are good or bad is in the past. From now on, even a little progress each day, you can definitely become the best!" For this reason, I set the motto of our class as: Without the accumulation of small streams, there can be no great river; without the accumulation of small steps, there can be no journey of a thousand miles. The slogan on the back wall of the classroom is: Every day is a new beginning, every day has a little progress, every day has a little harvest. I use this warning to remind the children constantly: I can do it!

Usually, I also pay special attention to cultivating the children's self-confidence. As long as I find their progress, I immediately praise them, so that they feel that they are making progress. Whenever parents ask me about their children's grades, my answer is: We should see the children's progress and give them time to progress. In this way, the children's self-confidence grew, and their grades and behavior habits improved steadily. In this way, the children gradually took root in this fertile land of the foreign language school.

(2) Nourishing with Love

Children in boarding schools are away from home for a long time and face school life alone. They will encounter many difficulties in life. The class teacher acts as a mother's role. In the morning, I am their weather forecast, reminding them to dress appropriately; at noon, I remind them to add or remove clothing; at night, I teach them to make their beds, check if their blankets are warm, and leave after they are asleep. In the cafeteria, I often add food and soup for them and ask if they are full.

I remember last spring, influenza was prevalent. Children in the neighboring class fell ill one after another. Following that, several children in our class also fell ill. Seeing the children fall ill one by one, I felt heartbroken. I decided to find a solution. So, I, who never liked exercising, started to go for morning runs with the children. Every morning, I would enter the dormitory ten minutes earlier than usual, ask about their situation, urge them to wash up, and then line up to go to the playground for morning exercises. Two laps every day, every day, for half a semester. This spring, when influenza was prevalent, our class had zero cases. Once, I met Yang Cong's grandmother. When chatting with her, Grandma Yang said: "My child gets a cold and fever every year, but this year he didn't get sick! That's great!" After hearing the parents' words, I deeply realized that as long as we do our work meticulously, all problems are not problems!

Without the nourishment of spring rain, how can there be lush green grass? Without the care of sunshine, how can there be shady trees? I wish to turn my love into a misty spring rain, into strands of sunshine, to nourish and warm my "saplings," to hold up a clear "sky" for them.

(3) Germination in Patience

An educator once said: "Education is like sowing seeds; it requires a certain season, a certain amount of sunshine (temperature), a certain amount of water, and a certain type of soil."

There is a little girl in the class who transferred this year. According to her grandmother, the child has lived with her grandmother since she was young and has never left her. The child is very introverted and timid, and a little depressed. She sleeps with her grandmother every night. When she first came to our class, the first day was fine, but she started to make a fuss at night. To ease her emotions, I let her chat with her grandmother on the phone. After comforting her to sleep, I left. But the next day she said she was sick, had a stomachache, and wanted to vomit. As a teacher, the first thing is to give care, take her to the infirmary for a check-up, contact her parents, and tell her to rest at home. When she returned to school again, she could happily play with her classmates in the classroom during the day, but during evening self-study, she came to me crying again, saying that she was not feeling well. My first reaction was to call her parents to ask about the check-up results. After confirming that there was nothing serious, I understood that this child simply hadn't adapted to the school environment and was making excuses. For this, I didn't criticize her, but patiently took her to the infirmary for a check-up, then stayed with her, comforted her, and guided her...

However, this happened to her again and again; she came to me four or five times almost every day. As a teacher, I knew she needed time to adapt to the environment here, not to compromise with difficulties. Saturday was Parents' Day, and her mother felt sorry for her child and wanted to take her home. With my insistence, her mother agreed to let her child stay at school. As a teacher, I know that indulgence is not love, and I will never condone children on matters of principle! In class, I encouraged the child to adapt to school life, not to compromise with difficulties, to learn the spirit of the poplar tree, to learn to be independent, to learn to grow, and to have more wonderful things in life. In class, I saw a glimmer of light in her swollen eyes, tears, but also her first step forward. After half a month, her condition improved significantly. Although she was a little depressed on the first day after the holiday, I saw her progress, and the frequency of her coming to me was significantly reduced compared to the last time. In March, when the weather warmed up, while playing with them on the playground after dinner, I finally saw her innocent smile. Now, she has adapted to life here and has integrated into this big collective of the foreign language school. Seeing the child happy, I am sincerely happy!

(4) Irrigating with Personal Example

A teacher is a mirror for students. Confucius said: "If one's own conduct is correct, what need is there for commands? If one's own conduct is not correct, even commands will not be obeyed." Teachers are the most respected and authoritative role models in the minds of students. The teacher's thoughts, beliefs, and morals, as well as their attitude, appearance, and behavior, have a subtle influence on students' growth during the process of class management and education and teaching.

As a Chinese teacher, I have read so many books over the years, and I have been teaching for 20 years? To be ridiculed by the children in the class is really shameful!

Below, I would like to ask the teachers present. How do you write the character "尝" in "品尝"? What is the radical of this character? In class, I misspelled this character. At that time, I was focused on lecturing when suddenly a shy child sitting in the front row tugged at my clothes. I couldn't stop, and looked at him in puzzlement. He said, "Teacher, you misspelled the character '尝' in '品尝'. It should be a '党' radical on top, not a '学子' radical." I was stunned! At this time, the children in the class also started discussing, and some children even looked up the character in the dictionary. It was finally confirmed that I had indeed misspelled it. This time, I was really embarrassed, and my face involuntarily turned red. Some students said, "It's okay if the teacher misspelled a character, just correct it." Some said, "When we misspell a character, the teacher makes us rewrite it five times, so let the teacher also write it five times! To deepen our memory!" Cai Zinian, who usually has a lot of clever ideas, said, "Five is too few! The teacher rarely makes a mistake, so she should write more, 100 times!" Others said, "The teacher is the teacher, no need to be punished, she has privileges!" In the gap between the children's discussions, I picked up my pen and carefully wrote the character 100 times on the scratch paper, and let the children pass it around. The children held the characters I had copied and passed them to each other. From time to time, voices came out. "We actually made Teacher Ye do penalty writing!" "Oh no, we made Teacher Ye do penalty writing, what will we do if we make a mistake next time?" As soon as these words came out, the classroom immediately became quiet, and many children looked at me, seeking an answer. I smiled and said, "Of course, you should write 100 times. I wrote it, shouldn't you?" "Sigh!" "Sigh, it's all Cai Zinian's fault, I wish we hadn't made Teacher Ye do penalty writing." Seeing the right moment, I said, "The teacher is the teacher, if the teacher makes a mistake, of course, she should write more. Cai Zinian didn't do anything wrong. However, you are students, if you make a mistake, you only need to write it five times, and remember it in your heart." The classroom became lively again. From then on, whenever a child misspelled a character, they would take the initiative to rewrite the wrong character five times. Because the teacher is the best role model, and the teacher's personal example is the most persuasive!

(5) Successful Harvest

At the other school, I spent two years with the children in my class, and I gained the trust of the parents. As graduation approached, many parents came to find me and said very sincerely: Teacher Ye, will you still be teaching our children in seventh grade? I helplessly shook my head. The parents anxiously said: Otherwise, we will go to the school board and jointly apply to have the children entrusted to you, we feel more at ease! Moved, I explained with a smile that the teachers in the elementary school and the middle school are separate, this is a matter of principle, and there is really no way to change it! These words are heavy to say, but in addition to the heaviness, there is also my heartache, after all, I have been with them for two years, this feeling has long evolved into family affection, how reluctant I am!

The trust of the parents is just one of the achievements of my work. What moves me more than the parents' trust is the students' care. Once, I was sick and coughed continuously while teaching. The children looked at me with concern, and after class, one by one, they came to my side to express their concern. One child said to me: Teacher Ye, let's have self-study in the next class, you write the requirements on the blackboard, and we will definitely complete it with high quality, we will definitely not talk nonsense or make small movements. Looking at the child's clear eyes, my heart felt warm, and I suddenly felt much lighter. The next day, I had a fever in addition to coughing, and I couldn't get out of bed, so I had to take leave and go to the hospital for an injection. In the evening, when I returned to the classroom, it was unusually quiet, and the children looked at me quietly, some even with tears in their eyes. I knew that the children were really worried about me, so I just smiled lightly and said: Teacher is fine now, I'm already better, look, haven't I come back again? Seeing my smile, the children finally smiled. Children's hearts are the purest, and their feelings are the most sincere. Their care is the medicine for my illness, the pillar of my spirit, and my greatest happiness!

At the same time, the help and support of my colleagues is also a comfort during my busy work... All of the above makes me truly feel the happiness of life at the other school!

As a teacher, I am happy; as a class teacher, I am joyful. In class work, we must learn to take it slow and wait patiently. In the waiting, flowers will naturally bloom, it's just a matter of time! But if we don't wait, we will never hear the sound of flowers blooming. May all our class teachers be able to calm down and wait for the flowers to bloom, and may all our teachers be able to welcome the east wind and quietly watch the flowers bloom in the garden.
